Baby Powder - The Perfume We Were Asked To Make, Again & Again!

A major part in our relative success in business has been listening to customers - and there are some conversation lines you learn not to ignore, even if they felt strange to begin with.

For us, that was our 93 - Inspired By Baby Powder EDP.

The suggestion first came about on Boxing Day 2021, two months after the launch of our Designer Inspired Perfume collection - and it went a little like;

"Would you consider doing a Baby Powder one?"

Fast forward to 2024, and this question kept popping up. Some asked by email. Others through Facebook. A few slipped it into their order notes. It wasn't something we actively planned to make, but the requests kept appearing often enough that we realised people weren't asking as a novelty. They genuinely wanted to wear it.

At that point, we'd just successfully launched scents such as the Improved Formula Halfeti, along with Angel Nova, Ombre Nomade and DKNY Woman - how does Baby Powder fit in?

Why Baby Powder?

It's funny really.

If someone had asked us ten years ago what one fragrance people would want to wear as a perfume, Baby Powder probably wouldn't have been anywhere near the top of the list.

Yet the more people asked, the more it started to make sense.

It isn't really about baby powder at all.

It's about what that fragrance represents.

Freshness. Cleanliness. Comfort. Familiarity.

It's one of those scents that almost everyone recognises instantly, and for many people it carries memories that go far beyond the fragrance itself.

More than just a fragrance

One of the things we enjoy most about working in fragrance is seeing how differently people respond to the same scent.

A perfume can remind one person of a holiday, another of a family member, and someone else of absolutely nothing at all.

Baby Powder seems to be different.

It has a remarkable way of reminding people of comfort.

For some, it's memories of newborn babies wrapped in blankets. For others it's freshly washed towels, getting ready for school, or simply that unmistakable clean smell that's been around for generations.

It proves something a lot of people including us have always believed about fragrance.

The best scents don't just smell nice.

They make you feel something.

Looking into the origins

Once we decided to take the idea seriously, we found ourselves reading far more about Baby Powder than we'd ever expected.

Although most people simply describe it as "baby powder", the fragrance itself is surprisingly complex.

Soft florals, powdery notes, gentle musk, delicate vanilla and subtle sweetness all work together to create something that somehow manages to feel both incredibly clean and incredibly comforting at the same time.

Perhaps that's why it has remained so popular for so many decades.

It isn't fashionable. It isn't loud. It doesn't chase trends. It simply smells reassuring.

Creating a perfume isn't the same as making wax melts

We've been making Baby Powder-inspired home fragrance products since 2019, but creating a perfume is a completely different challenge.

A wax melt fills a room.

A perfume becomes part of the person wearing it.

That means it has to develop naturally on the skin, settle well throughout the day and still capture the familiar character that people were asking us for in the first place.

It isn't simply a case of pouring an existing fragrance into a perfume bottle and hoping for the best. Getting it right meant taking our time. And we tested around 30 versions of Baby Powder before settling on the right one - forward from 2024, in 2026!

Why we finally decided to make it

Eventually, the answer became fairly obvious. People weren't asking because they wanted something unusual. They were asking because they genuinely loved the fragrance.

One of the nicest parts of running Nuscents is that many of our product ideas don't actually start with us. They start with conversations, suggestions, requests or challenges.

When enough people keep asking for the same thing, we think it's worth listening. For starts, money talks, but secondly, if we cannot deliver the best justice of a very much requested product, what even are we?

The finished fragrance

The result is exactly what we'd hoped for. A soft, clean, comforting fragrance that feels familiar from the very first spray.

It isn't designed to be bold or overpowering. It isn't trying to be the loudest perfume in the room.

Instead, it captures everything people have always loved about that timeless Baby Powder scent and turns it into something you can wear every day.

Will everyone love it? Probably not.

Fragrance is wonderfully personal, and that's part of what makes it so interesting.

But if you've ever caught that unmistakable Baby Powder aroma and found yourself smiling without really knowing why, there's a good chance you'll understand why so many people kept asking us to make this one.

Final thoughts

Sometimes the best product ideas aren't born in a meeting room or scribbled onto a business plan. Sometimes they arrive one message at a time.

This perfume is a good example of that.

It started with a simple question from customers, grew into countless conversations, and eventually became a fragrance we were genuinely excited to create.

Whether you've been asking us to make a Baby Powder perfume for years or you've only just discovered it today, we hope we've created something that stays true to the fragrance so many people already know and love.
